Position Descriptions
Timer: Either Shallow or deep end.
Timers are responsible for all 6 & under, 7/8, and 9/10 individual races that terminate at the shallow end of the pool and for all |11/12, 13/14, 15-18 races and all relays that terminate at the deep end of the pool.
●All timers are responsible for timing swimmers from the starting horn to wall touch, recording times, and giving time sheets to the runner. . Timers will time at both ends and switch positions depending on length of race.
Score Keeper: Keep a running score and coordinate with the scorekeepers from the opposing team, one person manually and one person on the computer.
Runner: Pick up timer sheets and bring them to the score table. We generally have two runners who alternate races.
Lane Manager: Responsible for making sure swimmers are lined up in order of race, You do not need to know the names of swimmers for this job; all swimmers are required to have their name written on their back. Secondarily try to keep noise and chaos to a minimum so swimmers and timers can hear the announcer and starter.
Place Judge: Record the order of swimmer finishes. Although this job is very easy, it is probably the most important position. You have to judge on both ends and switch positions depending on length of race.
Concessions: Home meets only. Speaks for itself.
Event Changer: Home meets only, keeps the event changer current with the races.
Announcer: Home meets only. Announce the races via PA system and works directly with the starter and referee.
Starter: Home meets only, Start the races with air horn, and works directly with the announcer and referee.
Bull Pen: Keeping 5-6 yr olds in one location and getting them to the blocks for their races. First half only.
